For those that have known Squeakies Jumpers over the years, or if you’ve just read the homepage, you’ll know that Susan Cooper is the woman behind the fabulous knitwear. She’s also my mum.
In 1993, she had a malignant melanoma that was successfully removed. Therefore we were all taken by surprise when this spring, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage 4 melanoma. This means that the skin cancer is now impacting her lungs and bowel (in technical terms, it has metastasised).
Mum’s cancer has a BRAF mutation, which is good news as it allows the most advanced treatment. No chemo or radiotherapy, but simply pills taken every morning and evening that directly target the mutation in the cells and hopefully allow the tumours to shrink and maybe even disappear. She’s under the wonderful treatment of Guy’s Hospital, whose dermatology team are world-leading so she really could not be in better hands.
It’s still early days but as you can imagine, we’re not taking this lying down, focusing all we can on mum’s health. For this reason, Squeakies is no longer taking orders and have cancelled the craft fairs for the remainder of the year.
We’ve limited stock availability of hats, jumpers and tank tops. You can find the up to date list here should there be something that meets your requirements. We also have a scarves in an assortment of colours that make great presents with their decorated gift boxes.
Thank you for your patience and we hope to resume normal service in 2019.
